Summary

Government decision assigning five agencies to act as Sweden's national competent authorities under the EU AI Regulation until 31 December 2026. The Post and Telecom Authority (PTS) supervises some prohibited practices, some high-risk systems and the transparency duties in Article 50(1), (2) and (4), is single point of contact and must set up an AI regulatory sandbox. The Authority for Privacy Protection (IMY) supervises the other prohibited practices, several high-risk areas and Article 50(3). Finansinspektionen covers credit and insurance uses, the Medical Products Agency medical devices, and Swedac is the general notifying authority.

Status notes

The assignment runs until 31 December 2026, pending supplementary Swedish legislation. IMY's high-risk areas are points 1, 5(b) (outside Finansinspektionen's remit) and 6 to 8 of Annex III; PTS's are radio equipment and points 2 to 4, 5(a) and 5(d). The Medical Products Agency is also notifying authority for medical-device AI. The decision refers to the inquiry report SOU 2025:101 and to the Commission's digital omnibus of 19 November 2025, on which the Council and the European Parliament agreed in early May 2026, changing when the high-risk rules apply and when the AI regulatory sandbox must be operational.

Stored and read in this run: the government decision as a PDF on regeringen.se (decision III:50 of 4 June 2026, Fi2026/01365; text layer reads 'Al-förordningen' for 'AI-förordningen'), which confirms the title, the date, the five authorities and their tasks, and the end date of 31 December 2026; and PTS's page on the AI Regulation (pts.se, checked 17 Oct 2026), which says the authorities were assigned pending supplementary Swedish legislation. Version 1's note that the Commission's list of single points of contact (7 Sep 2026) showed PTS with 'designation pending' is not in a stored file and was removed from the notes. The decision takes effect on its date; it states no separate commencement date.
