Summary

Ministers make secure AI the first of four priorities, recognising risks from design flaws, cybersecurity vulnerabilities and misuse by malicious actors, including in cyber activities and chemical, biological and radiological capabilities. They commend the revised HAIP Reporting Framework, welcome the HAIP Friends Group's March 2026 action plan, and plan discussions with members of the International Network for Advanced AI Measurement, Evaluation and Science and the OECD on comparing AI risk-assessment frameworks. The declaration also covers synthetic-content detection and risks to minors from generative AI and chatbots, including AI-generated child sexual abuse material and deepfakes.

Status notes

Adopted at the meeting of G7 Digital and Technology Ministers in Paris on 29 May 2026 under the French G7 Presidency; the text itself gives the date as 'May 29' without the year. The meeting also adopted a G7 Vision on AI openness opportunities and shared language and a G7 Common Set of Principles defining a safer and more secure digital space for minors, which the G7 Leaders welcomed at Evian in June 2026 (G7-06). The declaration also encourages AI procurement guidelines for the public sector, plans continued expert discussions on synthetic-content detection that may contribute to the French Presidency's open-source Meta-detector, and notes a French-presidency policy paper on agentic AI led by Inria.

Stored and read in this run: the declaration's text on MIC Japan's HAIP site and as the attachment to MIC's press release (soumu.go.jp, official; the two texts are identical), which confirm the title, the ministers as issuing body, 'May 29' in Paris under France's presidency and the AI content summarised, without the year; MIC Japan's press release of 1 June 2026, which gives 'Friday, May 29, 2026' and lists the Vision on AI openness and the Common Set of Principles on minors as further outcome documents; the Vision itself; and the UK government's publication of the declaration (DSIT, gov.uk), dated 29 May 2026 in its title, proposed as secondary_url because the OECD press release, the previous secondary source, refuses the archiver (HTTP 403).
