Summary

Call adopted by the G7 Leaders at the Evian summit and supported by Brazil, Egypt, India, Kenya and the Republic of Korea. The leaders recognise risks from children's use of conversational AI systems and ask providers to apply safety settings by default, parental controls and age assurance; remain committed to prohibiting the generation, manipulation and distribution of child sexual abuse material, including deepfakes involving minors, with detection and removal measures by platforms; ask for age-appropriate recommender systems; and call for shared data, impartial evaluations and common assessment standards for AI models and algorithmic systems to evaluate their impact on minors' safety.

Status notes

Posted on 17 June 2026, the last day of the Evian summit (15 to 17 June 2026). The call welcomes the G7 Common Set of Principles defining a safer and more secure digital space for minors adopted by G7 ministers (supported by the digital ministers on 29 May 2026, G7-04) and asks ministers to meet regularly and assess progress by the end of 2026. It is one of nine statements the Leaders adopted unanimously at Evian; none of the others is on AI: they concern geopolitical issues, cancer, the Bundibugyo Ebola outbreak, international partnerships, critical materials supply chains, growth, migrant smuggling and drug trafficking. A working lunch on 'Ensuring the safe, rapid and effective deployment of artificial intelligence' with partner countries and business leaders took place on 17 June 2026; at the closing press conference President Macron announced work over the following months on a platform for cooperation among democracies on the risks of frontier AI and common standards, with a ministerial meeting planned for September.
