Status notes
Approved by the Public Sector Strategic Committee for AI and Data at its session of 21 Nov 2024 and published on 22 Nov 2024 (the strategy's own page on gub.uy gives 19 Nov 2024 as its creation date), after a participatory process with contributions from more than 300 people; CAF and UNESCO gave technical cooperation. It runs from 2024 to 2030 with a mid-term review, and its implementation is subject to public monitoring and evaluation. Article 74 of Law No. 20.212 (promulgated 6 Nov 2023) tasks AGESIC with a national data and AI strategy founded on principles including equity, non-discrimination, accountability, transparency, auditing and safe innovation, acting jointly with the personal data regulator (URCDP) on personal data, and required a report with recommendations for regulating AI. IMPO records Article 74 as regulated by Decree No. 276/025 of 2 Dec 2025.
