Summary

AI chapter of a 2022 digital-governance law (Articles 3-14). Public-sector bodies may use AI systems to take or support decisions affecting a person's rights only where a specific law expressly allows it with safeguards; the defence and citizen-protection ministries and the intelligence service are excluded. Before use a body must carry out an algorithmic impact assessment, publish information about the system and keep a register of its systems, and contractors must disclose how systems work. Private employers must inform workers and candidates before using AI that affects decisions about them, and medium and large firms must register AI used for consumer profiling or staff evaluation.

Status notes

Signed on 26 July 2022 and published on 27 July 2022; the AI chapter applied from 1 January 2023 (Article 116(2)). The National Transparency Authority handles complaints about breaches of the public-sector transparency duties. The rest of the law covers cybersecurity, Internet of Things devices, unmanned aircraft for postal services, distributed ledger technology, 3D printing and other digital-governance matters. Chapter B of Part A was repealed by Article 26 of Law 5321/2026 from 20 July 2026, which re-established the public-sector AI register and the AI Observatory and set up the AI Act supervisory structure.
