Status notes

Filed on 24 Apr 2026 and referred to Rules; on 28 Apr 2026 it was withdrawn from Rules and passed by the Senate 37-1. In the House it was referred to the Information Technology Budget & Policy Subcommittee and died there on 29 Apr 2026, as did the linked public-records bill SB 4-D. It carries the same title as CS/SB 482 of the 2026 Regular Session (US-FL-01), which died in House messages on 13 Mar 2026. The bill stated an effective date of 1 Jul 2026. The Department of Legal Affairs would have enforced the chatbot, bot and data provisions as deceptive or unfair trade practices, with civil penalties of up to USD 50,000 per violation and a discretionary 45-day cure period, and minors could have recovered up to USD 10,000 from a chatbot platform. It would also have barred schools from giving students AI instructional tools before grade 6, with exceptions, and required parental notice and an opt-out.

Recheck of 18 Oct 2026: re-read the Florida Senate bill page for SB 2-D (session 2026D), the Senate Rules Committee pre-meeting analysis of 24 Apr 2026 and the Senate floor vote record of 28 Apr 2026, stored on 14 Oct 2026 from flsenate.gov (the archiver found them unchanged on 17 Oct 2026). The bill page confirms the title, sponsor, the single filed version, the effective date stated in the bill, the 37-1 Senate vote and the House action 'Died in Information Technology Budget & Policy Subcommittee' on 29 Apr 2026; the vote record confirms the 37-1 vote. The bill passed the Senate without amendments, so the analysis of the filed version, on which the summary and notes rest, describes the text that lapsed. The bill text itself was not stored. The statement in the notes about CS/SB 482 rests on that record's own stored sources (US-FL-01), not on this record's files.
