Summary
Guidance for federal institutions on generative AI risks (inaccuracy/hallucination, bias, privacy and security, IP, procedural fairness, over-reliance, undisclosed AI interactions, environmental costs) organised around the 'FASTER' principles (fair, accountable, secure, transparent, educated, relevant). It asks institutions to label AI-generated content, tell users when they interact with AI, test deployed tools for bias and vulnerabilities, including red teaming, plan independent audits, and route administrative-decision uses through the Directive on Automated Decision-Making.

Recheck of 17 Oct 2026: re-read the guide's page on canada.ca (stored 11 Oct 2026; the archiver found it unchanged on 17 Oct 2026), which holds the full text of the second version and shows 'Page details 2026-09-24', and TBS's 'Progress on AI in government' page (stored as the secondary source), which dates the first release (6 September 2023), the second version (20 February 2024), Generative AI in Your Daily Work (15 October 2024) and the Guide on the Use of Agentic AI (22 May 2026). The guide page itself gives no release date, so date_published rests on the progress page. The page metadata date 'issued 2024-05-30' cited in the earlier notes is not part of the stored page text and was dropped.
