Status notes

Published by the Treasury Board of Canada Secretariat on 4 March 2025 after engagement from May to October 2024, including a public consultation from 16 September to 31 October 2024; the What We Heard report followed on 30 January 2025. It applies to AI in any department or agency covered by the Policy on Service and Digital; organisations exempt from that policy are encouraged to follow it. A first-year progress update added to the full text reports the fourth review of the Directive on Automated Decision-Making, the launch of the Government of Canada AI Register (a minimum viable product published on 28 November 2025) with public consultations on its design from January to March 2026, whose What We Heard report followed on 11 September 2026, and 14 research projects launched by the National Research Council under its Canadian AI Safety Institute mandate. The update says the strategy complements Canada's National Artificial Intelligence Strategy: AI for All.

Recheck of 17 Oct 2026: re-read the strategy's full-text page on canada.ca (stored 11 Oct 2026; the archiver found it unchanged on 17 Oct 2026), which now ends with 'An Update on our Progress' on the first year and shows 'Page details 2026-10-02', and the priority-areas page (secondary source, page date 2026-02-25). The strategy's own pages show only the year of publication; the date of 4 March 2025, the consultation dates and the What We Heard reports rest on TBS's 'Progress on AI in government' page, stored in this run on 17 Oct 2026. The earlier source for the date, the priority-areas page's metadata, is not in its stored text.
Second check: Independent check by Claude Code (claude-sonnet-5-5), 2026-10-18: 6 field(s) supported.
