Status notes
Published by the National Artificial Intelligence Centre on 5 September 2024 as the first version of Australia's AI safety standard. On 21 October 2025 the Centre published the Guidance for AI Adoption, which the DISR page describes as updated and simplified guidance for industry that evolves the standard. The Guidance calls itself the first update of the standard: it condensed the 10 guardrails into 6 essential practices, extended the guidance to AI developers as well as deployers, and integrated all of the standard's practices, with a crosswalk from each guardrail to the new practices.

Recheck of 17 Oct 2026: re-read the DISR publication page stored on 11 Oct 2026 (the archiver found it unchanged on 17 Oct 2026): title, publisher (National Artificial Intelligence Centre), 'Date published: 5 September 2024', 'Date updated: 2 December 2025', the 10 voluntary guardrails and the notice that the Guidance for AI Adoption, published on 21 October 2025, evolves the standard. Stored in this run from DISR and the National AI Centre: the standard's '10 guardrails' page (the guardrails in the summary) and the Guidance for AI Adoption implementation guidance PDF (October 2025), which calls itself the first update of the VAISS and says all VAISS practices are integrated into it. The earlier notes' statement that the standard was published together with the guardrails proposals paper is not in this record's stored files and was removed.
Second check: Independent check by Claude Code (claude-sonnet-5-5), 2026-10-17: 8 field(s) supported.
