The government must prevent AI uses that infringe life, body, liberty or property or involve discrimination or misleading information, and regulators must restrict or prohibit them. Status notes

Enacted in full (20 articles) by presidential order promulgated on 14 Jan 2026 (ROC 115-01-14), and in force from promulgation (Art. 20). Agencies must review the laws and administrative measures they administer and make, amend or repeal them within two years of the Act's effective date (Art. 18). High-risk applications are those a central sector authority, in consultation with the Ministry of Digital Affairs, identifies as such (Art. 5(2)).

Recheck of 18 Oct 2026. Stored and read: the Act's page on the National Science and Technology Council's law database (law.nstc.gov.tw, copy of 18 Oct 2026, which differs from the copy of 11 Oct 2026 only in the visitor counter), giving the title 人工智慧基本法, the promulgation date 民國115年01月14日 (14 Jan 2026), the order number 華總一義字第11500001671號 and the text of Articles 1 to 20; the Act's history page on the same database (法規沿革, 18 Oct 2026), whose only entry is the enactment in full of 20 articles by presidential order of 14 Jan 2026, in force from promulgation, so no amendment has followed; the NSTC's English translation of the Act (EngLawContent, HTML and PDF of 18 Oct 2026), titled 'Artificial Intelligence Basic Act', dated 2026.01.14 and 'Promulgated on January 14, 2026'; and the database's list of English-translated laws (copy of 11 Oct 2026; on 18 Oct 2026 it came back as an empty script shell). The English text is a translation the NSTC publishes, not an authentic text, so English was moved from language to english_version. The summary is written from the Chinese text and uses the translation's terms (for Article 16, 'AI risk taxonomy and assessment framework'). No stored page names the Legislative Yuan or the date of its third reading (reported in late December 2025): the sentence on it was removed from the notes, and issuing_body, which names the Legislative Yuan, is kept as published and raised as an open question.
