Summary

Baseline policy of Nevada's Office of the Chief Information Officer for AI use by executive-branch agencies. It sets six principles (fairness and equity, innovation, privacy, safety and security, validity and reliability, and transparency, accountability and explainability), governance by the State Technology Governance Committee and the OCIO, examples of permitted, approval-required and non-permitted uses, security rules, controlled environments for experimentation, human review of critical AI decisions, an action plan aligned with the NIST AI Risk Management Framework, safety training, reporting of AI misuse and incidents, and audits.

Status notes

Effective 26 Nov 2024. All state agencies must comply with it as a minimum; agencies are encouraged to adopt their own AI policies that meet or exceed it and must submit them to the State Technology Governance Committee annually before 1 July, and where an agency policy and the statewide policy conflict, the more stringent one prevails. Questions about permissible use cases are handled through the state's Technology Investment Notification (TIN) process. The OCIO, the Committee and the AI and Emerging Technologies Working Group are to review the policy annually. It restates that existing law (NRS 205.473 to 205.513) makes deceptive and fraudulent uses of AI or synthetic media unlawful. A draft update, developed through the AI and Emerging Technologies Working Group and endorsed by the State Technology Governance Committee for broader review, was discussed at the Governor's Technology Office's State AI Roundtable II ('Human at the Helm') on 7 July 2026; it was not final and had not been signed.

Recheck of 18 Oct 2026: re-read the signed policy PDF from it.nv.gov (5 pages, stored 14 Oct 2026; text layer from a scan, with some character errors). It confirms the title, the Office of the CIO letterhead in the Governor's Office, all provisions, the compliance clause and 'Effective Date : November 26, 2024' below the signature block of the Office of the CIO as Chair of the State Technology Governance Committee; it gives no date of signature or issue, so date_published stays null. The Governor's Technology Office's page for the State AI Roundtable II of 7 Jul 2026 (it.nv.gov, stored in this run) says the draft update of the policy is not final and has not been signed; the draft itself is linked only through an Adobe Acrobat share link and is not stored. No stored source shows that the update was signed after July 2026, so the 2024 policy is treated as current. The archiver also stored a web style guide linked from the roundtable page (ada.nv.gov), which is unrelated and not used.
