Summary
Adopts the Conversational Artificial Intelligence Safety Act. Operators of conversational AI services must disclose that the user is interacting with AI whenever a user reasonably could believe they are interacting with a human being, and must apply additional safeguards for minor account holders. Operators must keep a protocol for responding to prompts involving suicidal ideation or self-harm that includes referral to crisis services, and a service may not claim to be designed to provide professional mental or behavioral health care. The Attorney General enforces the provisions through civil actions.

Status notes
LB 525, introduced in the 2025 session by Sen. Mike Jacobson on behalf of Gov. Jim Pillen, mainly protects agricultural data: controllers of such data need written consent agreements with agricultural producers, and from 1 Jan 2027 every new contract on agricultural data must prohibit its sale without the producer's express written consent. The provisions of LB 1185 (Sen. Eliot Bostar), which adopt the Conversational Artificial Intelligence Safety Act, were added to it, and the combined bill passed 49-0.

CAUTION: no official source confirms the title, date and status; the record rests on secondary sources. Recheck of 18 Oct 2026: re-read the Nebraska Legislature's Unicameral Update session review of the Banking, Commerce and Insurance Committee (15 May 2026), stored again from update.legislature.ne.gov on 17 Oct 2026 (only the site's sidebar changed since 11 Oct 2026). It confirms the act's name, the incorporation of LB 1185 into LB 525, the sponsors, the provisions in the summary, enforcement by the Attorney General and the 49-0 vote. It does not say when the Governor signed the bill or when the AI provisions become operative: date_published (14 Apr 2026) and date_in_force (1 Jul 2027) rest on version 1, which took them from law-firm summaries and LegiScan excerpts without storing them. The slip law on nebraskalegislature.gov could not be stored: the archiver's connections timed out on 11 and 17 Oct 2026, including a separate attempt for this recheck.
