Summary

Draft national AI policy with a rights-based, risk-tiered governance core. It would categorise AI as prohibited, high-risk, limited-risk or low-risk, with high-risk systems (law enforcement, biometrics, credit, welfare, employment, essential services) subject to data-quality, risk-management, human-oversight and transparency duties. It prohibits AI social scoring, indiscriminate biometric mass surveillance, manipulative systems and AI-driven election interference and deepfakes, mandates Algorithmic Impact Assessments for significant public-sector and private high-risk systems, and proposes an Independent Oversight Committee, liability rules, a sunset on 31 Dec 2030 and an AI Act by 2028.

checker: Nothing could be stored (official site fails TLS), so no field of this record has stored evidence. Targeted search for a newer version: no cabinet approval or final text found; reports from July 2026 describe the policy as still being formulated (no official page stored). The run changes on Issue #160

The record shows its last checked values until a maintainer decides; the decision is recorded in its history.

Status notes

Draft v1.1 was released on 25 Jan 2026 and Draft v2.0 on 9 Feb 2026; online public consultation ran from 26 Jan to 8 Feb 2026, and the policy committee was then reviewing the submissions. It replaces the April 2024 draft National AI Policy of the previous government, which was never adopted. The Independent Oversight Committee is to sit within the executive council of a proposed NDGIA body that would itself require legislation. Drafted under the interim government with a National AI Policy Steering Committee formed in July 2025.

CAUTION: no official source confirms the title, date and status; the record rests on secondary sources. PARTIAL. Recheck of 18 Oct 2026: no source could be stored. The Draft v2.0 PDF and the home page of the ICT Division's aipolicy.gov.bd portal failed on 11, 16, 17 and 18 Oct 2026 (the site's TLS certificate could not be verified, then a TLS handshake failure), and no earlier run stored them. The title, the date, the status, the summary and the notes rest on version 1, which read the 44-page Draft v2.0 PDF ('Draft v2, February 9, 2026') and the portal home page (version history, consultation dates) on 11 Oct 2026 without storing them; adoption was still pending on the portal then. The April 2024 draft is known from press reports only.
